SEASONAL SELLING
Saturday, October 18, 2008
Traditionally, spring and summer have been considered the selling seasons. By the time fall rolls around, parents want their children settled in new schools. Fall and winter, therefore, have been considered quiet times for real estate sales.
In recent years, however, this theory hasn't held much water. Winter, for example, can be a great time to sell your home. Why? Because your agent can demonstrate just how comfortable and warm people will be if they purchase your home. The air can be filled with seasonal spices--the scent of gingerbread, of evergreens. A fire in the fireplace would add to the ambiance making the home bright and warm. During open houses, visitors could be offered a warm cup of tea, cocoa or hot apple cider. The cooler months can actually work in your favor! Plus people need to buy houses year round for any number of reasons.
It's also true, of course, that spring and summer provide their own seasonal accents--colors, scents, and reasons for loving a day at home. A good agent can work these into the presentation, anticipating the desires of many buyers to have a home whose decor reflects the most pleasant feelings of the season. Regardless of the season, creating the right atmosphere will enhance the likelihood that the potential buyers will want to make the home their own.
