STONE SOUP NIGHT

It is not surprising that the Town of Truckee would recognize the plight of  its citizens in these difficult times, and rises to the occasion.  A group of towns people came together to form a Sunday night soup and bread get together with the idea of giving a good hot meal to those in need and those who act in support.  This program has been going on for the last 2 Sundays,  that began on March 1st with attendance starting at 84 and growing to 106  at last count.

Food is provided to all and to those who wish to take food home.  One of the organizers and supporters of this program is Project Mana.  Like so many other charity organizations, donations have been reduced and demand has increased.  This program has received wide community support from restaurants such as Moody's, businesses such as Dickson Realty as well as bands that have volunteered to liven up the evening. To my mind, this project epitomizes the coming together of the Truckee Community for the plight of its' citizens.

While Truckee has been luckier than many communities of its size, it still has had its share of adversity.  It is difficult, I think, to find anyone who has not been personally affected by, or been aware of a friend or, family member that has not been affected by this financial mess.  So, I feel grateful to be part of a community that reaches out to its citizens like Truckee.
