The present Tahoe Forest Hospital Cancer Center is being expanded into a state of the art center which is scheduled for completion in the later part of 2009.  The center is slated to be a multi million dollar enlargement project and is presently underway.

The project is being headed by a leading cancer specialist, who has spent 25 years at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles as well as being an adjunct Professor of Oncology at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Dr. Hiefetz has been overseeing the development of the new Truckee Cancer Center and was instrumental in Truckee being chosen by UC Davis Cancer Center as an affiliate.  It will be the first out reach hospital in the role of a teaching facility.  This means that there will be monthly meetings with the UC Davis cancer staff consulting together with Truckee doctors on various cases that are being treated.  This facility will now house several new doctors from the UC Davis system in Truckee.

The centers environment will be developed in a non clinical atmosphere, since it has been proven that patients feel much more comfortable and respond better in this homier setting.  You will find the environment to be supportive and caring.

It is the goal of the new center to be on the same recognized level of expertise as UCSF, UC Davis and Stanford.  This is accomplished by a free communication and referral network between the various centers.

There are many new innovative resources being instituted now and in the future such as a wellness center,  clinical trials, family support groups, exercise for energy program, breast cancer family support groups and many others.
